Energy Retrofit of Commercial Buildings

1:00 pm – Concurrent Session 2b

Presented By: Ken Welch, NeighborWorks of Western Vermont.

This presentation will outline an analytic approach to reducing energy waste in a mixed use building which houses six apartments and the offices of NeighborWorks of Western Vermont. Concepts, approaches and mechanisms will be explained through the story of the energy retrofit of the Kazon Building, a historic West Rutland structure. Through the Kazon story, the audience will hear how to significantly reduce energy consumption and operating expenses by analyzing the structure, it's occupants, the building's mechanical systems and implementing cost effective retrofit techniques. Building managers will identify with the presentation and hopefully leave with possibilities they may not have considered in their buildings' energy evaluations.
